33U2301 - Spiral Splitting Wedge
This is a super splitting wedge. Its narrow tip allows you to start the wedge in a block using minimal effort (with less chance of hitting your hand).
Once started, the aggressive spiral action works as a lever, prying the block of wood apart and preventing seizure. Almost makes wood splitting fun.
At 8 1/2" long, it weighs 4 3/4 lb.
A spiral-cut wedge levers the wood apart as it turns and drives deeper, rather than relying only on the straight wedging action of a standard splitting wedge; the spiral geometry also helps keep it from binding partway through a stubborn block.
A narrower tip needs only a light tap to seat before you strike it home, which reduces the chance of a glancing blow catching your hand as you start it in the block.
This wedge weighs 2.15kg (4 3/4 lb) and measures 8 1/2" long, enough mass to drive deep into a block without excessive swinging.
